The Cookware Lab ranks cookware by what is actually known about its safety. We are not a lab, and we never pretend to be one. What we do is aggregation: we read the published third-party test data, the state PFAS regulations, and the lab disclosures brands publish about their own products, and we put it all in one place - organized, priced, and plainly labeled.
That last part matters. A brand saying “our coating is PFAS-free” is not the same as an independent lab verifying it, and an uncoated stainless pan is a different kind of claim than either. Our verdict badges keep those separate: Verified safe means uncoated by construction or independently verified; Self-reported means only the brand says so; Avoidis reserved for products with a sourced, defensible reason to skip them. If we can’t rank something honestly, we say so instead of inventing a number.
The site is reader-supported through affiliate links, disclosed near the top of every page that has them. Commissions never change a verdict - the ranking logic is documented on the methodology page, and every claim links to its source so you can check our work.
